Things to do in Austin: The Zilker Botanical Garden

2220 Barton Springs Rd, Austin TX 78746 – 512-477-8672

This is one of our favorite places for landscaping inspiration. The Zilker Botanical Garden is not a huge facility, so if you are trying to fit in as many hot spots of Austin as you can, this is a great stop on your day trip which may include a hike or bike ride at Zilker Park, a trip to the Umlauf Gardens, or a visit to the trading counter at the Austin Science and Nature Center. All of these are located within a few miles of one another.

Zilker Botanical Garden is a gorgeous space that is located on 26 acres in the heart of Austin, Texas. Locals and visitors like have enjoyed the peaceful gardens, and for this it has often earned the name “the jewel in the heart of Austin.” Sounds fitting, right?

Enjoy spectacular theme gardens like the Rose, Herb and Japanese gardens. Each of these gardens is connected with clear, cool streams, waterfalls and Koi-filled ponds. Children in particular will enjoy the Hartman Prehistoric Garden, which sends them back in time with a recreation of a Cretaceous dinosaur habitat.

The City of Austin Parks & Recreation Department (PARD), the Zilker Botanical Garden Conservancy (ZGBC), and the Austin Area Garden Council (AAGC) have collaborated to bring Austinites and Texas vacationers this amazing thing to do. The garden is open to the public most days throughout the year, bringing over 125,000 visitors! Thousands of children from local Austin and surrounding community school plan to visit. Maybe you should too!

Admission is unbeatable. Zilker Botanical Gardens Kindly accepts cash or check. Children ages 3-12 pay $1, Children 13 and above and adults who are Austin residents pay $2, Non residents pay $3 and Seniors aged 62 and up pay $1.
