Lockhart State Park is coming to Maverick’s!

Free Community Event

Get ready to have a beautiful weekend this Saturday and Sunday.  We have a variety of activities lined up for Saturday, including public riding lessons in the morning at 9 am and noon, as well as FREE pony rides and photos with a unicorn starting at 4pm.  We are excited to present Caldwell County Snake Relocation services, who will be providing a free class to children and adults in the area to learn about FREE snake removal services in Caldwell County.  Donations very happily accepted.  In addition, Tom and Jeanne McDonagh of Texas Ride ‘Em, who provide outdoor amusement services, will be revisiting Lockhart to provide FREE mechanical bull riding on Saturday afternoon.  You may have seen them in Lockhart’s Diez y Seis Festival this past September.  Maverick’s will be helping with a promotional video on Sunday at Spoaks Motocross in exchange for this offer of free mechanical bull riding to the public, so if you think you’ve got what it takes to brave the bull, stop by on Sunday as well.  Entrance Fee Required.

Motocross Racing on Sunday

Sunday is a day of motocross racing at Spoaks Motopark.  Enjoy a variety of vendors and of course the highlight of the day, motocross racing hosted by FLY at Spoaks.  Mavericks will be present to coordinate with Texas Ride ‘Em, the mechanical bull entertainers who hosted Lockhart’s Diez y Seis festival in September.

Lockhart State Park is Coming to Maverick’s!

From 4-6pm, Ranger Lauren of Lockhart State Park is coming to visit with some really fun activities.  At 4pm, Lauren will share with us the native American’s Ancient Spear Throwing Techniques of the Atlatl.  Ranger Lauren will let children take a try at throwing the Atlatl, and explain about its history and use.  At 5pm, we invite you to participate in  free archery session.  Ranger Lauren will help children 10 years old or older properly handle the bow and arrow.  Because of restrictions through the Texas Parks and Wildlife commission, participants in archery must be ten years or older, have a signed waiver by a parent or legal guardian, and be present at 5pm to learn about safety procedures

More about Ranger Lauren:

Ranger Lauren is your friendly neighborhood park ranger from Lockhart State Park.  She is the Park Interpreter and Pool Manager at Lockhart State Park, which means she runs all of the educational programming at the park and the park pool.  Originally from New Jersey, Lauren attended Penn State University in Pennsylvania and received two bachelors degrees in Environmental Science and Education and a masters degree in Ecology.  Lauren worked in parks and nature centers in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Austin before finding her forever home with Texas Parks and Wildlife.  She enjoys kayaking, camping, hiking, tacos, s’mores, and hugs, especially in that order.

We hope that Ranger Lauren of Lockhart State Park ALSO likes mechanical bull riding.  It’ll pretty much be mandatory for her to take a photo upon the bull with her ancient spear.  Right?
