Thinking about riding at Maverick’s? Let’s make sure you’re ready for the experience! We are trail riders through and through, and we pride ourselves on being the most legitimate, authentic trail riding company around. This is not a customer-service-based, nose-to-tail tourist ride. Instead, we provide a true learning environment, where you’ll receive personalized coaching on the trail. It’s not just about the ride; it’s about honing your horsemanship skills in a respectful, hands-on atmosphere, regardless of what your skill level may be – beginner or truly advanced.

We are looking for students who are respectful, and eager to learn, regardless of Horsemanship experience. Our focus is on quality trail-based lessons, not on offering a leisurely, easy ride. Although there are places that can do that ( we will help refer you out) We prioritize riders who understand that horsemanship requires patience, responsibility, and mutual respect between rider, horsed and instructors. If you’re looking for a meaningful learning experience with real trail riding, you’re in the right place. If, however, you expect a traditional “customer service” experience or just want a casual ride, this may not be the right fit for you.

Still unsure? Take a moment to explore our website, where you can read both positive and negative reviews to get a better understanding of what we’re about. If you spend just 18 minutes reading through reviews and browsing the site, we’re confident you’ll get a clear picture of what our trail-based horsemanship lessons are all about.

We have the expectation that ALL guests understand that TIME DESCRIPTIONS ARE ESTIMATES and that we will cater to the hierarchical needs of the ANIMALS AND THIER HANDLERS plus GUEST SAFETY over the modernized focus on mainstream “customer service” and near obsession with feelings. Feelings ARE important. Ranches teach us that they take a back seat to HIERARCHICAL needs, which CHANGE frequently based of of VARIABLE CONDITIONS AND OCCURENCES.

Have questions? Please review our lesson and trail pricing info, and we’re happy to answer specific inquiries. Texting is the fastest way to get in touch: (512) 230-8413.

PLEASE understand that as a working ranch, we prioritize the comfort and well-being of our animals above all else. We would like to reiterate, regardless of age or perceived experience we only want students who are, respectful, and ready to engage with us seriously. We’re not a traditional customer-service-based horse riding business – we are trail riders, and we take that seriously. While we appreciate all inquiries, we may not always respond immediately. Texting is the quickest way to contact us, but we’ll do our best to reply to messages via Facebook, Instagram, Hiccamp, Airbnb experiences Nextdoor, email, voicemail, TikTok, etc.

We are proudly a small, family-owned company, and we work hard 7 days a week, 24/7, to provide the best safest possible experience for both our riders and our horse. As such, we thank you in advance for being understanding that our TIME FLOW respects our beloved horses AND handler’s needs. If we were just here to make a buck, we’d be doing a LOT more rides with the demand we have. Instead, we limit total number of guests each week to ONLY 25-40 versus your average modern day, comercialized trail company that takes 50-60 people EACH DAY. Now THAT is a BIG difference!

Lockhart

Sunrise/Sunset Rides

Enjoy a Scenic Sunset Tour with panoramic & bluff top views. This excursion is perfect for a more leisurely family trail or exciting hacking opportunities for the more experienced rider. $150+ pp, depending on the number of riders.

MOUNTED time: 1.25-1.5 hrs.
Total APPROXIMATELY: 2.25-3 hours

Ranch Trail Rides

Ranch Trail Rides are offered throughout the season with availability posted. These rides are more structured, geared toward people who are looking to keep to a walking pace, although there may be some light trotting. While this is a *more* structured and leisurely ride *than* our Horsemanship Trail Ride, it is *still instructional*, like all of our rides. Some folks leave wishing they had booked the Horsemanship Trail. Others leave tired! Remember, you can always come again. This trail ride is a nice introduction to horseback riding $125 pp.

Mounted time: 1.25 hours
Total time APPROXIMATELY: 1.75-2.75 hrs.

Horsemanship Trail Rides

This ride is our original go-to for everyone from beginners to experienced riders. We cater the experience to the individual, so riders with more horsemanship training can enjoy more opportunities to open the horses up. Beginners should expect some trotting. $175-$350 pp group and private rides.

Mounted time approximately: 1.5-2 hours.
Total time APPROXIMATELY: 2.5-3.75 hours.

Children's Intro to Horsemanship

Saturday and Sunday morning. Best for children 5-8, this ride is a suitable option for some children to get their feet wet interacting with horses. Mounted time increases with consistent riding. Children under 5 must have two able bodied parent/guardian participants. Children older than 8 may find it too introductory, however more nervous child riders should consider this a good option. ***One adult participant per child will walk along on our trail courses so be prepared to hike on uneven, "moderate" level terrain. If you do not wish to provide an adult participant, please sign your child up for the ONE HOUR PRIVATE. It will utilize the same spaces and include a longer mount time.

TIMES VARY from 45 minutes up.

Be advised that if you cannot control your horse you will need to dismount and walk back. Sunday PM XC WTC rides are for HIGH INTERMEDIATE + ONLY and are a LOW, low level of instruction. We expect you to seriously know the ropes of groundwork and mounted activities.

Georgetown Location

Georgetown Ranch Trail

The Georgetown trails are used by other trail companies and are "meh" until you get to the river. The river is gorgeous. However, walking through the river requires balance and control as it is on slick limestone rock. This is why your standard tourist trails do not take people into the river. On all of our trails we will encourage riders to sit upright, balanced and at attention, but also relaxed in the joints. Engaged muscles, soft joints. This is even more important when walking through the river.

Audit Class

Not sure if our program is for you? Check out our auditing classes at various locations that give you an opportunity to check out the facility and instructors ahead of time before committing. Audit classes are only $19.95. Participate in 6 Audit classes and your seventh class is the horsemanship trail. Inquire about extra credit homework and site participation opportunities to earn free classes. For example, help with hydrotherapy on a horse (it's easy! just time consuming) or do a research, reading, writing prompt that will help you build you horsemanship and riding skills while earning you free Audits!

Pasture Trail

This option is for riders that are interested in taking things at a more leisurely pace. Great for families with younger kids or families that are not interested in picking up the pace a whole lot. Similar to our bluff top trail at the Lockhart location

Austin Location

River Ride

Take a dip in the water and try swimming on horseback! This has been a crowd favorite throughout the years.

An excursion requiring more athleticism, this is appropriate for beginners of a healthy weight level who are balanced and active. We do not recommend this excursion for sedentary or overweight riders for the safety of the people and animals involved.

Private
Ride

See the beauty of the city from horseback.

Full day Adventure Hack

Come out and join us for a full day of horse excursions

River rides and Water experiences

Canyon Lake Ride

Check out a beautiful river ride with unbeatable views! Water levels vary seasonally making this location stunning --at times. We recommend riders who are interested in touring Canyon Lake on horseback do some digging prior to making a ride request. Learn about Canyon Lake water levels.

Staples river experience

Splash in the river and get some great photos with our equine friends. This experience is all about kicking back and having fun in the sun with our horses! Not at all a traditional "trail" the water encounter is about embarking on a novel horse to human interaction.

Somerville Lake Ride

Check out this beautiful reservoir in the Brazos river and have the time of your life! Sadly our pictures do not do this place justice. We have only made four trips to Somerville, but it's a favorite AND a wonderful option for an overnight stop on multi-day treks!
